Entering college at 19 y/o?

I'm a domestic student studying abroad, moved around a bit when I was in elementary school.

18 - HS Senior
19 - College Freshman

What's the average age for ppl entering college? Is it odd to be 19? Yep, this isn't an important question, but I was wondering anyway. :)

Many college freshmen are 19 when they start school as many American parents purposely hold back children, born in the spring and summer, an extra year so they can be among the oldest in their class, rather than among the youngest. My son, born in September and therefore in his proper year (as you are not allwed to hold back kids in the UK), will turn 19 during his first month in college. Londondad

I was 19 when i started :)

It’s quite normal, considering how many people take gap years.

I didn’t start college till I was 20.

i’m a third year and one of my housemates (we’re all third years) turned 21 this past weekend. the rest of us are 20. it’s not weird, if anything it’s better. no one cares anyway (unless you can get them alcohol)

I would say that the average freshman is 18-19. My friend turned 21 while she was still finishing up her 2nd year of college, so it’s no big deal. In fact, people tend to admire that my friend’s already 21.

My roommate was 20 freshman year because he came over as an international student. Didn’t really matter. Plus he’s asian and shorter than me so its not like anyone would know.

I know parents that held their kids back so they could be the biggest, I.e. for sports. That’s pretty low in my opinion.

I think being 19 as a freshman is somewhat normal? It’s not something anyone would notice. People take gap years and such too.

Nobody will care or notice, one of my best friends at school was 21 when we started because of the mandatory Singaporean army.

I wonder why. xd

My D was still 17 when she started college as were some of her friends. Most were 18. None was older.

My S began at one month past his 18th birthday. He dropped out and is now 21 and thinking of going back. He did not go away the first time and will not this time; he is no longer living at home and he doesn’t feel the need for dorm life.

Even most of the held back kids here will still be 18 when they start college.

I graduated high school at 17, (most of my friends were 18), and I started college that fall at 18.

So… 19 seems to be the average age for people entering college, with a lot of people under 19 and a handful 20 and up.

I just met a girl today, a freshmen, who is 22. She dropped out of school for a while to earn some money, and now she is back at school to get into the nursing program; she also has a 4.0 gpa.

My ex-boyfriend was 19 when our freshman year started. I was 18, the “normal” age I guess. One of my good friends was 17 all year and just turned 18 two months ago.

Nobody really cares.

I barely missed the cutoff in my state so I am one of the older ones in my grade. My birthday is in summer before school starts every year so I will be 19 when i enter college. A lot of kids will also be having birthdays in september so they will turn 19 right after they enter college.

I was 17 as a freshman. It really doesn’t matter.

Why is this such a big deal? By this point in my life, it no longer made a difference whether others were a year older or younger than me.

I was 19 to when I started college.
