entering freshman!

First, I know that freshman are sometimes ridiculed on this site, but we have a right to post and we have questions and want input too...so chill. Anyway, I am entering ninth grade at a Catholic school in MA (I;m agnostic coincidentally) and I was just wondering if my schedule and probable extracurriculars look o.k. also, being a liberal, do u think i'll feel out fo place at a catholic school (even in Mass.)

classes:
English H
Algebra 1&2 H (split in semesters)
Biology H
World History 1 (no honors availabe frosh year)
French II H

activities:

Maybea sport, but I'm not really athletic + other activities could take up too much time

thanx and i cant wait for high school...i am sure that will pass (lol) please respond ttyl

Hi freshman, welcome to college confidential! yes, your schedule looks fine. AP classes are probably not offered to freshmen at your school. make sure to commit to your ECs, so you have 4 years of each one with the possibility of attaining leadership positions your junior and senior years. your being agnostic in a catholic high school would pose an interesting challenge. you'll probably have to stand up for yourself a lot. sounds like fun, really. good luck!

Keep a low profile, try not to talk, and don't get in the way of us seniors and you'll do alright.

Also, just do a sport. You never know what you are good at.

Of course you'll feel out of place initially. I'm a moderate liberal in a Bible-belt town on the sun-belt (southern California), and I get my head chewed off periodically, but only when I open my mouth. It's not that big of a deal, really. I've found that apart from our views on divorce, homosexuality, war policy, etc., most people aren't that different from me. We're all moral, we just have different views on morality.

Your schedule looks fine. Nice and diverse. The sport is optional; I never officially ran, but I could have joined cross country at any time because I run a lot by myself, and I don't think that is going to hurt me. It helped because in the Common App, one short response asks for the most meaningful EC, and I wrote how running is meaningful because it isn't official, like everything else I do.

hey thanx for replying you guys. i might do a sport (winter or spring) if time is available. no AP classes arent available until junior year. some other activities i wanted to do were mock trial, theatre guild, but i think i chose good extracurriculars that;ll keep me busy for now. wraider, i have a suspicion u might go to my school....not sure.

o nevermind wraider u dont go to my school.....oops...i go to central catholic in lawrence, mass. btw

Bump......

Trust me, you'll be fine in Catholic school. Trust me, even Catholics in Catholic school get sick of religion class and Mass (case in point - me). Only argue in religion class if you genuinely think it's worth it.. There are plenty of atheists and agnostics in my school (I'm good friends with most of them.)

Seriously, do a sport. If you're not particulary good at anything, join cross country. That requires no skills, and as long as you commit to it, you are guaranteed to be better by the end of the season.

Oh, and watch out for sophomores. They tend to be the most mean spirited towards freshmen. Have fun in high school. It's a blast.

you are in a lot of clubs

welcome! as people have already stated, no, you won't feel out of place. just because its a catholic school, not all people have catholic views. (i got to an all-girls catholic school in the bay area. i might know a sense of what you feel... i'm a conservative in a very liberal area. you'll find other liberals, don't worry! they're out there, and i know it!)

i see you have intro to theatre. if sports aren't your thing, and you're looking for a rewarding EC that shows you have a lot of responsibility and commitment, go and audition for your HS's shows!! it's a blast, and you'll definitely get a lot out of it (except for cardiovascular workouts, maybe ;)

have fun in school!! don't tick off the sophomores, they're just waiting for revenge on the freshmen. (as stated above)

"Anyway, I am entering ninth grade at a Catholic school in MA (I;m agnostic coincidentally)"

Haha, I'm agnostic too. Those nine years of Catholic school just...really did me in.

I'm gonna suggest on your first day that you hold your head up high when you enter the building. Like you own the place. Exude confidence is basically what I'm telling you. There is, however, a difference between cockiness and confidence, so don't cross the line.

Schedule looks good and so do the ECs, as you aren't stretching yourself too thin. I've seen people try to load up freshman year and they often fail at it.
