Is credit card debt is a big deal upon entering the Naval Academy or Naps? I am going to sell my car before entering either institutions to pay off the debt completely, but I just need to know if it NEEDS to be done sooner than last minute. Thank You

Credit card debt in High School?

Have we gotten THAT bad?

According to his profile and previous posts, he is 21 yrs old and enlisted.

A car is actually nice to have at NAPS and they do have more disposable income than a plebe. So my advice would be to wait and find out, for sure, which way he is heading. If it is NAPS, contact them and ask about existing debt and perhaps keep the car, if possible. If there aren’t questions on the appointment package about existing debt, there probably should be.

Ah! I knew there had to be a catch! Thank goodness!

Yes Mombee is correct, I am 21 and enlisted. I received the great news today and got accepted to NAPS! I would contact them about it, but I do not want it to effect my personal record with them in any way. The debt isn’t a ridiculous amount, but I just want to make sure they don’t run a credit check, see the debt, and decide to revoke the acceptance to NAPS. Thanks you for your help! I had no idea they would even let you drive at NAPS, I figured that the liberty policies would be more strict than Plebe year at USNA.

Congratulations. Call Chief Ashwood. You probably have reason to talk to him about something else anyway so just do an “Oh by the way”. Not a big deal.

The good news is that you get paid while at NAPS… might want to consider getting yourself back in financial shape as well!

Congratulations!
Best of luck at NAPS!
Don’t let those wheels get in the way of that 2.0!!! ;)
