Hey again, I just wanted to ask a question for people that attend or know a lot about UCB, UCLA, UCSD, or UCD. I was thinking of applying to the top UC's undeclared, because I heard that might increase my chances of getting in. I was interested in engineering, but I haven't really explored that field in high school and I want to see what other options interest me. But if I do enter undeclared, would it be EXTREMELY difficult to trasnfer to the college of engineering after declaring my major?

Anybody have any advice for me?

I don't know anything about the UCs, so don't take my word for it, but it would seem to me that at most colleges it would be easier to enter a selective program (such as engineering) from the beginning, and transfer out later, rather then transfer in after entering undeclared. That is just my opinion though; I don't know anyone who has actually gone to the UCs and been faced with this dilemma. See if you can shadow an engineer for a few days to observe their work and get at least a better idea if you would be happy on that career track.

If you intend to major in something common such as poli sci, would it help or hurt to put 'undeclared' on the application? Some people have told me that schools are more likely to reject the more average intended majors and go for the girls who want to do engineering or something instead.

Well engineering is one of the hardest majors. If they dont feel you have the grades to be succesful in a certain major they may reject you.

Go to the forums for the universities you have in mind and ask students who have gotten in, IMO. It varies so much.
