Entertainment Law

Hi, I'm a student who has just completed their first year in college. I'm interested in going to a law school where I could break into entertainment law. I was wondering if someone could tell me if I'm on the right track to compete for admission in the following schools

Stanford
Columbia
NYU
Cal Berkley
UCLA
Texas
USC

Currently I have a 3.61 gpa (3.85 this previous semester), and took a practice lsat where I scored a 168 (I hope this test is a good predictor - 4Tests.com - Begin Your Exam. I'm a English and History double major at a selective (but not prestigious) liberal arts college in Central Illinois. My extracurriculars consist of being the public relations chairman for my fraternity, being in multiple plays (I came in as a theater major, and I still get to be in plays, so hopefully acting will help with law), and I have an experimental radio show where I read my poetry and stories, as long as other peoples' work.

I want to become a movie producer, and I think getting a JD would help the process out. Am I on track to have a shot at these schools? If I'm not, what do I need to do to improve? Thanks

Well, little helps you get into the movie business more than getting contacts in the industry. Going for a JD can’t replace that unless you end up…getting contacts in the industry. That usually takes time, while you work your way up in a firm. If you know theatre folks, ask their advice about production opportunities now, their contacts and their thoughts.

Oh I know, but I’m still curious as to see whether or not I would be competitive for admission at a top 25 law school.

Any thoughts?

Could someone please give this a look? It would be much appreciated.

Law School admissions is pretty much a numbers game. They take your extra curriculars into consideration but at very little value compared to your LSAT score and GPA. Until you finish your undergraduate coursework and actually take the LSAT, it’s hard to predict. I would use this site http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com/wp-content/uploads/Law-School-Predictor-Full-Time-Programs.htm</a> to gauge where you can get in though anyway.

Good Luck

My daughter is at USC and I will tell you they do offer entertainment classes but if movie producing is want you to do your might consider going to film school. She has a boyfriend that is a movie producer and it isnt an easy job. It makes law look like a cake walk, he works 7 days a week, many 16 hour days and never takes a vacation for not much money. You need to choose a school where you can make contacts right away for help after school and even then it isnt easy unless you have great contacts.
