So I haven't seen this discussed on CC and I am curious: how good does starting/ running your own company look to colleges, particularly elite ones? I refer to a real business, not making a website or two, something that makes real money and has a good website etc. Discuss.

Bump for justice

I would hope it looks good as I do the same thing (:

I think it’s really subjective though…some people I meet think I’m amazing and others think of it like “Oh. Ok. So?”

Part of it probably depends on how much real money you make. $100k is certainly more impressive than $100.

Good to see I’m not alone. Anyone else interested? I’m sure this has been a major EC for some people who applied, anybody have any anecdotal knowledge or general input on the subject? I refer to a company that makes real money (probably 10K or more).

One person on CC got accepted into John Hopkins with his business. UCs didn’t like him as much, but those schools are all stats based.

I bet our ecs are standout though. With good stats, you’re likely to get accepted into many schools. :)
