Can I take, for example English N1A or R1A this summer or fall, or fulfill the first part of the R&C requirement without having fulfilled the Entry Level Writing Requirement (I will do the test on september) with no inconvinience?

Since taking the exam and passing it is a pre-requisite to enrollment to R1A courses, you will need to take the exam and pass it to enroll. If you have passed it, you pass into the second semester course. If not, you’ll need to take college writing (a 6 unit course) in lieu of the first semester. For more information, go to:

I was under the impression that after you completed the requirement you had to do the first semester and the second semester as well.

COE’s humanities requirements ask for two R&C courses. It’d be nice if we didn’t have to take the first semester, but everywhere else seems to say that you need the requirement and two semesters.

That link says College Writing R1A is what you’d have to take if you haven’t completed the exam. You can see if you can take the test than in Spring take an A course that isn’t 6 units, though.

if you haven’t satisfied Entry Level Writing by AWPE or other means, you have to take a single class that combines that writing along with the A part of Reading and Composition. that is the College Writing R1A which is 6 units to reflect that it covers both entry level and R&C A work.

If you pass the AWPE or otherwise have satisfied the requirement (e.g. AP or SAT scores) then you just take the R&C A level course (not college writing but the others that are R&C A courses).

Also, if you are in CoE then there is a specific list of courses that count for R&C A and R&C B credit - not just any R&C course will do.

Good follow-up, Rider, as usual!
