Entry Level Writing

I am going to be a freshman this fall and I have not completed the Entry Level Writing requirement. I did not take an AP English class and missed the ACT cutoff by 1 point.

Everything I have heard about College Writing R1A has been extremely negative and, being 6 units, it would prevent me from taking the classes that I want to take.

Do I absolutely have to take College Writing R1A or is there a way to bypass this class? Can I take the AWP Exam to test out of the class? I would even consider retaking the SAT or ACT if necessary.

Any info would be helpful, I am having trouble finding info about this requirement. It was not even mentioned during my advising session at Calso.

Yes, the AWPE can allow you to test out of the ELW requirement, so that you can take a regular R&C A course (e.g. College Writing R4A, English R1A, etc.) instead of College Writing R1A.

You should have been required to take the AWPE in May if you have not already fulfilled the ELW requirement beforehand.
