Hi! I got in to Emerson’s accepted class of 2020 and I’m seriously considering it. One concern of mine is the fact that its in a city. I come from the middle of a cornfield and I was wondering what the adjustment is like and if its doable.
Have you visited? Emerson is very much an urban campus–a number of high rise buildings next to each other. It is across the street from the Boston Common, which is nice for green space–there are performances in the summer, ice skating in the winter, and people watching through the year. The theatre district has lots of restaurants and shops and, well theatres, and there is a T stop right on the corner of the Common where Emerson is. You’ll find lots of funky students. My daughter has gradated pink hair, and we call them “her people”.
I taught in the publishing program at Emerson years ago and my daughter has just been accepted to the Theatre Design/Technology major. We live in a nearby Boston suburb, so it would be a bit of a change for her, but not as drastic as yours.
Good luck with your decision and let us know if you need any more information.
