Environmental Economics & Policy at Cal

After the long process of calling both universities, talking to friends, reading almost every thread on this forum, taking Tylenol from headache, almost forgetting about the finals, and trying to find and read the endless links with statistics and websites I know I have saved somewhere, I realized it is 5/26/09 and I am back to the original spot, where I have started a month ago...50/50 for Berkeley pre-economics and UCLA pre-business economics. I decided to be a pessimist and look at the other side. If I do not get accepted to the Berkeley's economics, I have to choose between the alternative majors: Environmental Economics & Policy and Political Economy of Industrial Societies (PEIS). I can choose between Econ or Econ/International Area Studies at UCLA. My question is...If I graduate Berkeley with Environmental Economics & Policy, can I still go for (let's say) economic consulting or I will have a lot less options with this major (versus going to UCLA and majoring in straight economics with a minor in accounting)? Is it better to have Berkeley with a less popular major or UCLA with a more popular major?
I would appreciate any advice or help, because I am torn apart right now.
(Other factors to consider: My family is in San Jose (2 hours away from Berkeley), my boyfriend is going to UC Irvine, money is not an issue, I want to work and possibly later go for MBA, I do not personally care about the social atmosphere, food...or hot girls for that matter) lol Thank you in advance!

Best advice, dump your boyfriend if you aren’t attending the same school. Save yourself a real headache.

Im going to cal and Ill be your boyfriend, so that would resolve part of your problem. Why are you so pessimistic about getting into the Econ major at cal? If you were admitted I am pretty sure you will get into the major.
