I really want to get a career that will have an effect in protecting the environment and using resources wisely. As becoming a biologist seems to be a pretty common major, I thought I should try out a policy/management-oriented major. That way, technically, while the other environmentally-minded people are out making discoveries and thinking of plans as to how to better use/preserve the environment, I could be the person that helps pass that plan into law and into reality. But how effective IS a policy major, anyway? Do I actually get to do anything? How much influence would I have? I would think I would end up getting a government job under that kind of major... would I be in a better position to influence government policies?

If I actually wouldn't have a lot of effect in that field, maybe I would be better off simply majoring in wildlife ecology, animal biology, or something more direct and more enjoyable (working with the environment & animals more directly!) Any insights on this to share?
