Environmental Science Colleges

Any suggestions for schools that have majors in environmental science or related fields? I'm having trouble searching through all the schools since many searches use env. studies & env. science interchangeably.

Criteria:
- Env. Science major
- OOS tuition ≤ $25k/year (Location NY/NJ)
- # of Students ≤ 10,000

I'm open for suggestions even if they don't meet the last bullet.
Currently looking at SUNY ESF and Humboldt State University. Any info, thoughts, opinions?

What’s your profile/scores/grades? Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs has a rigorous Env. Science major, and depending on your scores and if you apply before Nov. 1, you may be eligible for the automatic scholarships IU gives to even OOS students. Although IU itself is a large school, SPEA is 1,600 students and kind of its own niche on campus.

and here’s the link on scholarships: [Automatic Academic Scholarships: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Future Scholars: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington”>Future Scholars: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington)

Here’s a few ‘top program’ lists as a starting point for your research. I’m not subscribing to the ranking methodology here - just using the lists as one way to get some ideas.

I’d also take a look at University of Oregon in Eugene - the local culture is very innovative in this area so I suspect the program will be a good one. I also recall that the OOS tuition meets your budget.

i would pay attention to the distinction between environmental science in these lists and environmental studies. Two very different majors with different outcomes.

University of Vermont (UVM) has an entire college within the university devoted to these subjects. The Rubenstein School of Environmental and Natural Resources offers six undergraduate majors, including both E. Science and E. Studies. As already mentioned, these two majors are different, mostly in the rigor of required courses.
Their OOS tuition is quite steep, but they were very generous with merit aid for D.
Our final price was less than an in-state public would have been.

I think SUNY ESF would be an excellent choice. Meets all your criteria, nice USNWR Ranking, and you can cross register with Syracuse for courses (I think!!)

If NY Res and excellent academics-- at Cornell, Environmental Engineering can be taken in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (which is a state school).

I was going to suggest SUNY-ESF too. I went to SU (a while back) and “stumpies” could definately register for classes at the university. You have to be OK with snow tho.

Alright, thank you for the suggestions. I’ll look more into those.

I’ll be a transfer student so I don’t think I’ll be offered any scholarships. I think UVM and Oregon are out because of their prices.
