My daughter got admitted to UCLA, University of Washington and Whitman College and not sure where to go yet. She is major in Environmental Science. Both UCLA and Whitman's ES major require the student to pick a specific area to study in the junior year such as Biology, Geology, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science.... etc. UW doesn't have that requirement and hence it gives the student more flexibility to learn everything. However, I am not sure the budget deficit in Washington State will cut some classes and also limit any research opportunities for the student at UW. We are paying the in-state tuition if she goes to UW. Not sure if it is worthwhile to go to UCLA or Whitman unless they have a great environmental science program. Any advice would be greatly appreciated to help her make a decision.
