Environmental Studies!!

What are the best schools for Environmental studies that are also in the top 15-20 or so universities?

Yale?

Stanford?

Harvard?

Brown?

Hardly matters for env studies. Know your goal.

Not about quality, but: a quick look at the colleges you mentioned suggests

(1) Yale has an interdisciplinary program, but you sort of create your own focus (anthropology, history, biology, political science, etc.) within the program.

(2) Stanford seems to have several departments and programs which are based in Earth Science. There is a completely separate Public Policy major, where you can focus on Environment, Resources and Population.

(3) Harvard has an engineering track called ‘Environmental Sciences and Engineering,’ as well as a department of Environmental Science and Public Policy which combines both natural and social science (but not necessarily history or other humanities).

(4) Brown has a Center for Environmental Studies which offers both a BA in Environmental Studies (social-science based) and a BS in Environmental Science (natural-science based).

So hers’s the advice: Are you looking for a humanities-based program which includes some science but also includes lots of political science, history, etc.? Are you looking for a science-based program? Do you want engineering? Instead of thinking about the “best,” think about what is the best for you in terms of meeting your academic and career goals.
