Eop program sdsu

My S received an email today with an Invitation to Appy to EOP at SDSU. Can anyone give me some information on this program, I have been researching on the internet but can only get a small amount of info. Our EFC 01361 and my S has been Awarded-On Hold Cal Grant B Entitlement (E1). He has Not been accepted to SDSU but has been accepted to: CSULB, Cal State SF, Chico, and UOP. He has only received the email from SDSU the school he has not been accepted too, if we DO NOT fill out the application does this in fact hurt our chances of acceptance? Sorry first time college child and would appreciate some advise.

EOP and the admissions office are COMPLETELY different. No worries.

Great Thank you so much for your help!

Ok thanks for the advise I really appreciate it!

Actually collegemom, I personally would recommend your son apply to SDSU EOP. There is a small automatic grant involved ($500 per semester) but he also gets access to resources such as exclusive library/computers for EOP students only. He also probably will get free services such as tutoring and other assistance. I have not experienced this first hand, but as an applicant this year I researched EOP and found out about all this info through the EOP sites.

Mezaruben is right that the departments are different and that NOT applying will NOT have a negative effect but…

This is the last year that EOP will have a POSITIVE effect on admissions. If your son’s serious about attending SDSU or having it as a viable option, I’d complete the form. The application does not take too long and the only things you may have to push on him to complete ASAP are the two teacher recommendations.

Ehh sorry double post? I was still writing the rest of it. Haha Sorry! Deleted the first post. Hope this helps!

@NYYanks - thank you for the detailed answers!

My D is a first time college student and sometimes it’s hard to find answers just with ‘Google’. Thank goodness for help from others on College Confidential :)

@collegemom7 - I would have your son go back through CSU Mentor and apply for EOP at all the Cal State schools he has applied to (CSULB, Cal State SF, Chico) so he can be eligible for the Grants and tutoring assistance as answered so eloquently by NYYanks.

my daughter recd the following email yesterday:

“Congratulations! You have been accepted into the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at San Diego State University (SDSU). I would like to welcome you on behalf of EOP staff and students. In the next week, you will receive an official acceptance letter in the mail, which will include information for admission, housing, EOP Summer Bridge Program, EOP First Contact, and New Student Orientation.”

Got the same e-mail, waiting on UCs before deciding where to go. If i do end up selecting SDSU, I hope they won’t make the summer bridge program mandatory as I might be working during the summer.

Went today and the BEST program is not mandatory^

It’s actually quite competitive. They offer 6 units and housing for free!!! 5 weeks
