I was looking at the UC Davis admissions site (http://why.ucdavis.edu/admissions/froshAppCritSelProc.cfm) and there is this category of admission called EOP, the Educational Opportunity Program, and I remembered seeing it on my UC apps back in November. Does anybody know what the EOP is anyway? Do you have to be financially unstable or something?

In my experience, EOP is for students who:

are first generation college students (neither parent graduated from college)

are low income

are otherwise statistically underrepresented (minority racial groups, women in engineering/sciences, etc.)

what are the benefits of eop?

It's a support system, basically. A dedicated set of counselors and other individuals who can offer programs and whatnot for the kinds of students who generally aren't well represented in the student body and could benefit from a helping hand, particularly in the case of the first-gen college students who have no idea what's going on (like me), low-income kids who are always tempted to drop out because of finances (like me), and groups that might get a wee bit too much peer pressure.

Mostly it's the programs, though. ACE at UCSC is one such program. It is available to all students, but has limited enrollment and is meant for EOP students. It is a separate 'section' system where you get extra help, close attention, etc.

oooh i see, thanks a lot for telling me

No problem.
