EPGY in terms of admission

how well does a summer in the EPGY look on ones application... how much does it help a stanford and non stanford application

I frankly don't think it matters if you just do it for impressing adcoms. Then again, I could be all wrong. EPGY is a great program though.

Stanford doesn't care where you participate in the programs. E.g. if you participate in EPGY it wouldn't give you a leg-up in Stanford admissions just because the program is held at Stanford. It just shows that you did something academic with your summer, which is always good and might help you in the admissions game. I deduced the above from Stanford's admission FAQ if you're wondering. I wouldn't be surprised if other colleges had the same policy.

an MIT adcom at MIT told me that MIT does not consider EPGY to be superior to other sources of college level math classes. I would assume the same thing applies to the summer program. Choose the best program for your interests and needs. But do NOT assume that choosing a program that happens to be a college X will necessarily give you an advantage at college X.

I agree with the above that there is no reason to suppose that EPGY programs (distance learning or summer programs) give you a special edge at Stanford. Do the program if it is worthwhile for you, but don't expect any admissions magic from it.

I know one summer program that does give you an edge in Stanford admissions: Quest Scholars Program. People who take part in this already go through a nationwide and rigourous screening process. I read on an old CC thread that their acceptance rate at Stanford is 98%.

am i mistaken or is that only for low income students

Yes, it is only for low income students. Basically, your family has to have around a $40,000 income. Everyone is allowed to apply though.
