How competitive/hard to get into are the EPGY Stanford Summer Institutes?

Thanks!

It's only competitive if you live in California, from what I understand. I went to the 20th century humanities program last year (I lived in Kappa Alpha Theta if you're going, BTW) and had an absolutely amazing time; for sure the most academically satisfying time of my life, and Stanford is so beautiful, and the people were so nice. It was a blast. I made really close friendships with a few people that I still talk to frequently on the phone and I'm going to California this summer to visit some kids I met there.

I was the only person from my school that applied (and obviously I got in), so I don't really know how hard it is to get in. I think my program (humanities) was less competitive than the engineering, perhaps. But keep in mind that they try to make it geographically diverse. We had a kid from Indonesia, one from the Philippines and one from China in our house, and there was one from Turkey that didn't show up but was enrolled. And our 40 kids represented probably 30 states. They don't want it to all be California people, and I know that some of the kids in my house who were from SFO or LAX told me that a bunch of kids from their school applied and they only picked one.

If you have any more specific questions please PM me. I really can't give enough praise to this program.

I went to EPGY last year too, but for the humanities first session. Was Joel your teacher?! I absolutely adored him and still keep in touch with him. EPGY was the best summer experience I have ever had.

No, our group was split into two classes and I was in the group that didn't have Joel. He was a lot of fun though!

I obviously recommend EPGY as well.
