Epic disappointment in Math II.

I got a 770 on my Math II. How did that even…? I even got higher than that in Barron's, as well as in the SAT Subject test blue book (800)!!! WHAT HAPPENED?

I don't even know where to start. This is a big disappointment and I feel so bad. :-(

You should feel so bad right now. You should probably quit life.

On a more serious note, shut up and stop whining. Your self pity for a great score is pathetic.

Unless this is a ■■■■■ thread, to which I respond “good job, my Jimmies are rustled”

That’s a perfectly good score, an extra 30 points aren’t going to be the reason for your rejection / acceptance.

Also, i’ll trade scores with you…

dude… that sucks…you might want to retake it. 770’s a pretty bad score for math level 2. a lot of people get 800’s :P

@lichen2347 Shows why I feel so bad. I mean, just how? So many people get 800s. It’s like, this math test had some weird stuff on it, or something.

Well, I know I’m going to retake Math II later…sure does complicate things.

idk man. i mean, im pretty sure you can retake it and get an 800 without studying so much for it again. Just refresh ur memory a little and you’ll get that 800 in no time

Yep. I might have to buy the other released Math II tests again…It’s not going to be that much preparation the next time around. But it’s still inconvenient, you know?

Man. It’s just…just bad that my World History subject test score (780) is higher than my Math II score.

not sure if sarcasm or serious…

anyways, whether or not you should retake it depends on your intended major and college you are applying to. if you aim for math/engineering/etc major at ivy league, then theres much more reasoning behind retaking than something like a history/english major :p

or you can accept a score in the top percentiles of test takers instead and move on to other parts of life.

Please retake it so that way ivies will reject you.

regardless of what a 770 puts you in, its a great score. It will not make ANY difference at all if you retake it and get an 800. All you’d be doing is wasting your time and showing ivy leagues that you have nothing better to do with your time than retake tests you’ve already done well on. Save yourself the money and time to do things that will better fulfill you and have a greater impact on your application.

I got an 800 on the june math II. It was my first time and I didn’t even use any practice books. Just know your onions, which I’m sure you do recheck like crazy and say your prayers.
As for retaking it, I wouldn’t advise that.

@123Testing Actually, I am aiming for an engineering major at a top college like Ivy league (though I’m shooting more for a UC). So…that’s kind of the reason why this reaction happened.

@festus2 Why wouldn’t you advise it?

Imagine getting a 550. Better?

If you think that 30 points will matter in your application, you are wrong.

Engineering at an Ivy? None of the Ivies are really known for having a great engineering program, maybe with the exception of Cornell and Columbia. UC’s (especially Berkeley) would be better for your interests.

Also, 770… don’t sweat it. The difference is maybe a few stupid mistakes from an 800.

So what if you don’t get in an Ivy? In engineering, overall prestige of the school isn’t really that important. Many engineer employers would take a Georgia Tech grad over a Yale grad any time.

@Sophia Funny that you mentioned UC Berkeley since that’s actually #1 on my list…I mean, Ivy isn’t exactly the focus; I know that Ivy’s apparently great, but I don’t really know much about them in fact. UCs are really where I want to go.

800’s critical if one wants to go into engineering though. Problem is, while 770 is a good score in it’s own right, most people who go into engineering apply with scores of 800.

I think I really did do careless mistakes on this. Not to mention the fact that certain types of problems weren’t even in the practice tests I took in other books (such as the logic question)

AniXiaN, same position man. I got the same score as you (How ironic - I think you saw me already from another thread), and I consider myself a good enough math student that I should have gotten an 800. However, at this point I’m not too worried. 770 is a great score for us, especially if supplemented by another great score (I did phenomenally well on US History). And I’m pretty much going to leave it at that. If I do exceptionally well on my SAT 1 in October, I may retake it. But realize that our score is at a place where getting an 800 is NOT going to be the thing deciding whether or not we get in.

“800’s critical if one wants to go into engineering though”

Not really, but it sounds like you have already made up your mind.

@moltobene18 Yea, I think I did see you in another thread. And I do consider myself a “good enough math student”. What a coincidence.
True, it’s great. I did pretty good on World History, I guess. It’s also another coincidence how you are considering retaking it if u do good on the SAT I in October; That’s my plan, too (so there’s a bunch of coincidences going on here, haha.

Your last sentence reminds me of that one statement by an MIT admissions officer that said that there’s no difference in the score range of 750-800 for Math II. So you are probably right.

It’s more important at this point to get other SAT IIs down at this point and of course, the dreaded SAT I.

@OtherWindow I’ve calmed down a bit now. Haha.
