Epidemic for this generation [fentanyl]

I would encourage you to read the links I posted.

You can choose to believe LEOs (who have no/little training in toxicology), or actual toxicologists and physicians. I am just providing information.

There are no anesthesiologists panicking about accidental fentanyl exposures. They have all had many skin exposures over the years.

Can we move on?

I haven’t read these links yet, but thank you for, I hope, clearing this up for me. I never understood how such a small exposure could cause death and illness when apparently other people use it on the regular as a real drug. Hope to read these this afternoon.

Wife is a CRNA. She’s used fentanyl as an anesthetic for years with no issues. Maybe under some bizarre conditions it could cause problems but she hasn’t mentioned it. That said it’s always been under lock and key. It’s always been a high theft item.

Having grown up close to ground zero for the opioid crisis it’s been heartbreaking to watch. Family and friends from HS. Not just one. The sadness turns to anger when you look at the causes.

I see this as Opium Wars 2.0. China never forgot. They easily got Hong Kong back. They’ll turn off the fentanyl spigot in exchange for us ceding Taiwan.

The fentanyl that is illegally manufactured does not have quality control like legal, medical drugs.

My son is a LEO and and EMT. Current guidelines are that inadvertent fentanyl contact with the skin is not an issue. Most of the reactions you see in the media from police officers are likely panic/anxiety attacks because of the lethality misconceptions.

I know of two friends of friends who lost their children (both college students at “elite” schools) to accidental Fentanyl ingestions. In both cases the kids took pills that they thought were Xanax or Adderall. Just so, so sad.

Wow, here’s some wonderful news! Naloxone spray will now be available OTC, and places like gas stations may choose to carry it. This is great.

I’m guessing it will come down in price due to generics as well. When I bought it last, it was $60 for the pack, which contains two 4 mg doses.

I hope that lots of people will start carrying it and places will start keeping it around as just another part of a first-aid kit.

I will probably buy two doses and give one to my daughter. She’s more likely to need it, living in the city and hanging out with a younger crowd.

Serve and protect, huh?

A woman! I don’t know why that surprises me, but it does. I hope they put her away for a very long time. :frowning:

‘War on drugs’ deja vu: Fentanyl overdoses spur states to seek tougher laws
Critics say the measures recall the failed programs of the 1980s and ’90s that locked up users and low-level dealers without cutting off supply

If there continues to be demand, supply will find a way to get in and meet that demand.

No gift link, sorry! I am sure the story is available on other websites.

From the BBC:

“ Ovidio Guzman Lopez, one of El Chapo’s sons nicknamed “The Mouse” who was arrested in Mexico earlier this year, is the only brother in custody and awaiting extradition.

At least 29 people were killed during the bloody operation to arrest him in January. Furious gang members set up road blocks, set fire to dozens of vehicles and attacked planes at a local airport.”

The US is bringing a pool noodle to the gunfight.
