Episcopal vs Woodberry vs Mercersburg LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION

Hey y'all. I really need this help. I am faced with a really tough dilemma. I have been accepted into the schools listed in the title. I am having trouble because I love ALL of the schools. Can anyone put their 2 cents of knowledge in, so that I can get some other thoughts besides my mother and my own on this topic. I need a non partial third party to play the role of sage. Please Please Help.

Here are some things we are finding…

Episcopal

Love the location and co-ed nature…( near D.C which suits my interests perfectly)
Chapel sessions
Senior Seminar
Good Academics(imperative)
Higher Reputation than other two
They seemed interested in my athletics(very important to me)
Near where I grew up before moving
Know the school well (camps and such)
Great Facilities
Tightly knit community
Up and coming athletics
Not a make or break environment
Only downside: Possible distractions of city, and family.

Woodberry

Uncle is a Dean.
Very Very Very connected with the school and its mission
Great Facilities
Great Football(very important to me)
Personal Feeling of Importance
In a very Rural area( Can be good or bad)
Great Food!!!
First school to recruit me
Only downside:
Not a lot of matriculation to ivy’s and all-boys(which can also be a plus depending on outlook)

Mercersburg

Closest to home
Pretty good facilities
Happy Environment(seemingly)
Very good matriculation to IVY’s
Good conference in athletics
Only downside: Completely Liberal Arts( After 6 months freshman are let to study for themselves)
Almost a make or break environment

Well I’m probably a little biased but I really like Episcopal and the fact that it isn’t in the middle of nowhere. 10 minutes away from D.C is amazing. Just think of all the first-hand field work and opportunities you could be exposed to. Also, the campus and facilities are like, ah-mazing!! Episcopal was actually my second favorite school that I applied to. I don’t know much about Woodberry, but personally, (please don’t take offense!) I wouldn’t ever go to a school that’s not coed… Mercersburg seems like a great school from what I know about it. You should go revisit and see which school you can picture yourself at the most. (Again I’m probably biased so you shouldn’t take my answer to heart) ;)

*Also, what do you mean by distractions of city?

See my comments about EHS on thread titled “I need advice! PLEASE HELP!!!”. Plus I think 100% boarding is great.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to go to a school where my uncle is a dean.

Episcopal is great, and I hear that they’re huuuge on lacrosse. I don’t know much about Mercersberg, but I’ve heard amazing things about woodberry forest and 3 of my cousins went there. They had an amazing time with the football program and they all got recruited for college. When I talked to them, they said the ruralness made the campus seem more like a tight nit community. I hope you figure out which is best for you!

@Katriss

First off your so AWESOME for answering my plea for help. I don’t take offense at all. In fact one of the only reasons as to why I applied to a single sex school(all-boys) is because I am an only child and I felt that I could earn a feeling of brotherhood from Woodberry, and also because my uncle is a Dean. But I learned more about it as the process continued. By city distractions I mean that you could be tempted to really divulge in the city and my mom doesn’t want me to forget where I’m from. And you know sometimes if you need something done, being in a place where you can’t do anything but study could be good and bad

All of you guys are awesome!!! Your advice is much needed! KEEP IT Coming. And @GMTplus7 Having an Uncle as a Dean could be bad but it also could be good, I mean you won’t be bullied and you could always have someone watching your back. But again, it could also be bad

I totally get your concern in the city divulging part. I was also accepted to St. Paul’s but Episcopal actually appeals to me more (probably b/c I got a full ride (scholarship + fin. aid) and feel more at home there, but also because it is located in a city setting). I read somewhere on the website (student-parent handbook?) that there are leave points. Of course going to D.C on the weekends require no leave points but you do have to fill out a form…
*Yeah, I know, I’m so educated in the school rules… :)

^When are you going back to revisit? March 25 or April 8th?

Naturally your innate ability to pay attention to detail intrigues me… Thought I was the only person who looked at student handbooks and instagram pics to try and investigate… Seems like we could very well be classmates. I’ll see you on April 8th.

@Katriss do you feel that Episcopal a little bit more southern the only reason it isn’t a HADES or GLADCHEMMS

These are good choices and you are unlikely to go wrong with any of them. I think you already know that EHS is your best fit, it comes across in your own words.

Yeah, it sounds to me like you leaning towards EHS. It certainly does carry more weight behind its name, and though it may seem trivial, the nicest campus (opinion). Really think about if you want to deal with single sex education, and from what I’ve heard from my cousin, Mercersburg is a good school too. But still, based on what you seem to lean towards and what I know about the schools, EHS seems like the way to go.

This is not a LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION

@ EHSWFSMBURG…
I know what you mean! It seems like all the HADES and GLADCHEMMS are located in New England… (they probably are, I’m just too tired right now to look it up), or at least above the Mason Dixon line. I bet you that if EHS was in Connecticut or Massachusetts it would be attracting more students because New England is known for its good education program. The students at EHS did seem a little more southern than the students that were at SPS when I visited. (I pick up on these things since I come from Georgia. :))

EHS is (was?) actually part of the Select 16 elite boarding schools.

You know what you want, chose the one you love the most and the one that loves you the most, revisit days are good ways to feel it.

:D I know it’s hard… but not life or death… well maybe lol

(Ps. I’d take Mercersburg)

@ecacee

I used that wording to get the readers attention, almost like at thesis statement! lol. I just need help

@Mexstudent2013

LOL! ur hilarious. Its not life or death, but it gets peoples attention. Hey one question… Why would u choose Mercersburg?

Well

1: I dont like the idea of Religion+Education (Though I’m currently studing at a La Salle School)

2: I would not like to have some family member at my school, classmates would think I have some kind of preference though they might not express it.

3: I had read a lot of good comments about MBurg around here…

Here’s another reason, just look at this:

[Episcopal High School vs Mercersburg Academy in Boarding Schools](http://boarding-schools.findthebest.com/compare/114727-138275/Episcopal-High-School-vs-Mercersburg-Academy)

It’s just my opinion, the decision is yours, you’ll take the best decision no matter which school you chose, as long as it is yours! :)

The “Find the Best” site has some of the most inaccurate “statistics” of any site out there – on the page comparing Episcopal and Mercersburg, just to give a quick example, it lists both schools with a green “check” by The Association of Boarding Schools, but then lower down the page under “affiliations” it shows Episcopal without it. I have also seen schools listed with red “X” marks for clubs and courses I know they have. This is NOT the site to use to make an informed decision.
