Ept test scores

so i got my EPT test score back and i got a 149 -___- sadly. yes i know, i have never been that great in english/writing.
it is out of 180 i think.
so i read in the website that 151 + is passing or something and you don’t have to take this english class thingy… i am so confused.

so if i got a 149, does that mean i have to take an extra english workshop course? i don’t want to waste my time taking another english class just because im 2 points away…

will they exempt me? i mean i got a 540 in the reading portion on the SAT ( ya i know i suck), which is 10 points away from 550 or being exempt. and now im 2 points away from a 151… and i have to take another english course? can somebody explain to me how this works? thanks

Jermaphobe, do you think your EPT scores and SAT scores are an accurate reflection of your reading/writing skills (relative to other students your age)? If so, you need to do yourself the BIGGEST favor of your college career and take those extra classes. They will make EVERY SINGLE other class you take MUCH easier. And, as a former headhunter, I can say unequivocally that what you learn about communicating and comprehension in those classes will definitely help you with your future job hunt, too.

Hey it’s ok you’re not alone! i scored pretty low on the Math test…So i’m re-taking it, other wise i find myself taking two extra math classes before i can get to the class that actually counts towards my credits.

what do u mean u can retake it ???
i got 145 on the ept :(

Well, you can take the test again and see if you score better. The last test you can take that Cal Poly will accept is on june 19th : )

“Students are expected to take the
EPT only once.”
thats what i read on the csu page, i don’t think u can take it again can you ?

i talked to a lady at Cal Poly in the math department who recommended me to take it again…

Nutellaella, will you please tell me the number u called so i can ask if i can take the ept again please. The june deadline to register is 6/3 so it will help me alot, i would definitely take it again if i can :)

Hey, i actually asked a lady while i was at cal poly for open house, so i don’t have her number.
But if you call the EPT testing headquarters they’ll tell you if you can, the number is
925-808-2142

I got a 145 in the english part :(… Sucks how I have to take 2 quarters of remedial english… Urgh… Oh well, it probably be beneficial to me, since I just moved here 7 yrs ago, and English wasn’t my first language. I know, it’s a waste of money and time, but I think it’s worth it for me.

same for me, i got 145 just like 1 pt short from the 1 quarter of remedial english

Even if you did pass the Ept test, I might still recommend a fundamental writing class. As one who has been a hiring manager at a high tech engineering company, I can’t tell you how many resumes I’ve seen written with poor English. Those people take a giant leap DOWN in my opinion.

Even if the person’s native language isn’t English, we do conduct business and write reports in English. Good writing skills are very important when preparing an engineering report. You want to make what you’re saying to be precise, otherwise mistakes could be made. Customer briefings are, as expected, also in English. You are representing the company to the customer in both the written and oral parts of the presentation and it better be good, if you want to advance in your career.

So, just take the English class with a smile knowing how much it is going to help you in your chosen field.
