Okay, anyone want to tell me why they think I got rejected to UCSC? I applied for anthropology with a 3.8 gpa. Im in the honors college at my school (New Mexico State), I´ve worked at a national laboratory and at the Smithsonian. I am very involved in school and I do my share of community service...what the hell?

um.... it could be that since you're out of state... but still, that does seem weird. Good luck, man. Maybe appeal, if you really want to go.

Your OOS state status most likely --was there anything else you believe could be seen as negative (major GPA, bad essays, Ws, etc)?

my major gpa is a 4.0, my essays I thought were strong, no Ws on my transcript....bah. Do you think this is an insight to the decisions from the other UCs I applied to (UCSD, UCSB and UCB all of which have yet to post a decision for me)?

quite possibly. Does UCSC have a really strong anthropology department? I know of UCLA's anthro department... I suggest you appeal.

Credits not transferable?

i think its mainly cuz of out of state and non transferable...
i think u should get accepted by atleast one of the UCs u applied
so just hang in there

it probably has to due with course transferability issues.

dude i feel sorry for you! i am anthro major my self i have low GPA than u and got in to UCSD so far... If you are OOS you have a huge disadvantage sorry...

your over qualified

your over qualified

Thats impossible. You can never be over qualified.

yeah you can. they know a 4.0 student is not likely to go to ucsc or at least thats the way they might see it

they think he won't attend UCSC doesn't mean he'll get rejected.
go read the UCSC site and see how many people were accepted.
if i didn't remember wrongly... they accepted 3x the number of people they actually hope to admit...
duh... cuz they know a ton of people won't attend even after being admitted
