What is a competitive erg score for a recruit on the MENS crew team. Also, if you're on a team at a NESCAC, please post a competitive score from your school.

I checked with a few recruits at schools that you mentioned in the other thread. Their erg times in HS ranged from 6:45 to just a hair over 7:00 for a 2K.
Two of William’s top rowers’ erg scores at CrashB in 2009 were 6:21 and 6:33, respectively. They’re close to, or are, LWs but also national team caliber.

You’re being serious right now? Even from Williams College. Those seem awfully slow for hvvwt recruits… Please respond.

They are LW but row in the 1V. If you weight adjusted that time of 6:21 for a LW, it would be 6:05 for a 200 lbs rower, which would have made you the top US junior rower at CrashB by 12 seconds.

Do note that if you weight adjusted every erg score, your boats would be full of small lightweights and the boat wouldn’t be as fast as it would have been with some heavyweights. Many coaches follow the national team gold standard, which breaks up athletes into three different body types.

But in regards to the erg scores, I would just email the coaches. I was out of range when I started being recruited, but ergs change and they’ll give you goals to meet.

My point was that a 6:21 for a LW is VERY fast, faster than a 200lbs+ rower who pulls a 6:15, and many (most) coaches would go for the LW. Also, if you look at Williams’ 1V, their guys are not humongous.
(Without getting in this discussion: At some schools, the LWs are actually faster than the HWs, and LWs are recruited for the HW team)
