Hi
I just realized that i made a huge mistake in my common app regarding my senior year classes.I wrote two classes (logic and history) that are not offered this year.in my country we are not allowed to chose our classes so we have the exact same classes all through high school and i didnt realize that those two were not offered this year.(my school decided to revise some classes this year)
should i fax harvard regarding this error? or should i email them or can i upload a text about this error in my student portal?
Your guidance counselor / principal must complete the mid-year report (that’s true for all SCEA accepted students, as well as RD applicants) and the mid-year report will contain your complete senior year schedule. So, it’s not worth contacting Admissions about it right now.
I would send a fax. It demands attention. Emails, especially at this time of year, will not be effective. Also, your counselor had to send your official transcript, so I’d recommend faxing asap. If you do this, you will probably be okay. Good luck!
@gibby yes i know that my counselor will have to complete the midyear report.and that is the reason why i am concerned.
i dont want to look as if am lying (for instance they could rescind my acceptance ?) so maybe i should fax them about this error?
@expertiger my official transcript does not contain any info about 12th grade.but im worried that they will have some problems when they see my midyear report (instead of those classes that i mentioned we have geography and ethics this year)
Several years ago Harvard admitted a student who submitted false transcripts and test scores, so Admissions does not rely on whatever the student has written down on the Common Application. Admissions only relies on Official Transcripts submitted by your guidance counselor or principal. So, if you want to update Admissions, you must have your guidance counselor do it.
@gibby thank you. i know that the admissions does not rely on my self report.but i just want to be honest and i dont want to face any issues when they see my midyear report.also those two classes that i mentioned are actually minor ones in importance (they only have 1hour/week) so i dont want to have any problems just because of this stupid mistake
I think your desire to be honest, and your fear over what Harvard might think, is clouding your thought process. Many students who fill out the Common Application in September/October/November/December with their anticipated courses for the 2nd half of their senior year actually switch classes due to the high school not offering the course, or the student simply changed their mind and wanted a different course. I don’t think this is worthy of an update, especially as your school will not allow you to take the courses you wrote down on the Common Applicaiton. If every student updated Harvard about an issue like this, Harvard would be receiving hundreds if not thousands of similar updates.
@gibby i totaly understand your point of view.but firstly i put those wrong classes not just for the second term but
also for the first term.secondly we do not chose or switch classes like the students in the USA so i just think that it would be extremly weird for harvard to see two different courses instead of the ones i self reported.
Here’s my suggestion: Most students in the SCEA round are deferred. That’s just the reality, especially for international students. If you are deferred, your mid-year report submitted by your GC will clear up the issue. If you are accepted, then you GC can submit a FAXed letter to Harvard with a revised schedule for your senior year. I think Admissions would be fine with that, but if you want to, go ahead and fax a letter saying “I just wanted to update you on my revised course list for my senior year.” Don’t admit you made a mistake, just send in a revised list of courses.
