error in FAFSA when using IRS retrieval tool

Hi everyone, has anyone experienced an error on your FAFSA when using the IRS retrieval tool to make corrections? I'm frustrated - I did this and the tool imported an erroneous amount that basically looks like my son is no longer eligible for aid because my income is too high!!!

I've spoken with the FAFSA and IRS - my question is this - has this happened to anyone, and how easy was it to rectify?

Thanks.

It depends whether it was an error - or if what was imported was correct. What did FAFSA and the IRS have to say about it? Was the amount somewhere on your return? Was it for some kind of one time or extraordinary thing - like sale of stock, cash out of 401K or something?

Was this a 401K or IRA rollover?

Yup, I will bet it’s a rollover. If that is the case, do NOT change any numbers (don’t change the IRS number, no matter what). Instead, contact the aid office and tell them you have a rollover. Ask what they want you to provide as proof so that they can update the FAFSA on their end to account for the rollover.
