ESL? Umm...

Just because I'm coming from China (Hong Kong to be exact) does not mean I can't speak English...

The school I got into said that when I arrive I'm gonna have take some English test to check whether I need ESL or not.. the thing is.. English is my first language/mother tongue. I don't speak any other language fluently (apart from Spanish I learn at school) I've gone to an English school my whole life. This is so frustrating!

Anyway, sorry for wasting your time (directed to you guys reading this... :P)
I just needed a rant.

...stupid stereotypes...

I was born in Hong Kong! Connection.
Where are you going to school next year?
Have you ever heard of Yew Cheung Intl. School?

Cool! I was born in Australia, but I’ve lived in Hong Kong my whole life.

I’m going to Interlochen Arts Academy next year and yeah I’ve heard of that school.

Oooh. My sister just graduated from Interlochen last year. Sadly her dorms (TJ) were not the best but that lake is great. What arts are you going to focus on?

I was just wondering because I have some friends who go there. I haven’t lived in Hong Kong since I was younger.

Yeah I heard the dorms aren’t that great but oh well… the academics and arts are great though so it evens out! :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m going in as a theatre major… I’m so excited! (The only thing I’m hating is this ESL business…lol)

which english school did you go to in Hong Kong?
I’ve lived in HK all my life too, then moved to Taiwan 2 years ago, and been in English schools my whole life.

I went to South Island School…

just take the test, it will show that you know english fluently, you won’t have to take special coursed, and life goes on…

Most schools are testing everyone these days, so that even the us students can be appropriately sorted into appropriate track (regular/honors etc.)

Nail the test so that you go straight to honors. That opens the doors to AP-equivalant classes in your later years.
