Essay 5 significant challenge

I have a question about MIT’s essay 5: Tell us about the most significant challenge you’ve faced or something important that didn’t go according to plan. How did you manage the situation? (200-250 words)
Is it too shallow here to talk about supporting someone or some idea that then ‘lost’ or was let down, and then doing something about it myself. In other words could the not going to plan be concerning like supporting something that didn’t go by plan, but doesn’t deeply impact me.

Hi there,
I’m sorry but I can’t get a clear idea of what exactly you intend to write in response to the prompt. However, I understand your confusion and might be able to help.

You see, the main point of the prompt lies on “How did you manage the situation?” So, they want you to show how mature you are in dealing with challenges, and whether you give up things or you are a dedicated person.
Therefore, in response, you might want showcase yourself as a dedicated and mature person who doesn’t shrink back from problems and, instead, face them with courage.

Also, keep in mind to show the significance of the challenge and that of your experience with it.

Hope it helps!

If I understood you right, I think you are asking if it would be fine when the “challenge” didn’t really affect you severely. Not everyone has those dramatic setbacks; in fact, most of us won’t have those enormous hardships in life. I think what would matter more is how you responded to that challenge and what you learnt.
