Do you think it’s okay if my essay is a little bit over 500? (It’s like 511…)

I know they specifically ask for 500 words or less so should I just eliminate 11 words… I already eliminated a lot.

I think as long as it fits on one page single-spaced it'll be fine. mine was well over 500 but under 600.
I don't think they'll actually count words.

I spoke to a Princeton admissions officer and she said that they have reviewed essays that are well over 600 words for the supplement and for the common application. She said that if your essays are ENGAGING then there is absolutely no problem in submiting an essay of such length. " As long as the reader does not get lost in the content." were her words. And no, they do not count words. 500 is only a FIRM SUGGESTION..... hopefully this helps..

I think mine was around that length last year, and it was fine. I know how painful it can be to cut out those last few words :)

Okay, thanks for the info!

i was at like 580 something and i got in haha
so dont worry about it
good luck!

I recommend between 500 and 800. A lot of people go over.it's not now many words, but how important each word is.

Is this just for the personal statement, or does this also apply to the supplemental essay? I'm @ 593, but hopefully I'll be able to do a bit more editing and condensing.

mine was 300....
