Essay about *army + physics*.

So I am currently serving in the army, and willl be discharged in a couple of weeks time. I've come up with an idea for the number five essay question on the commonapp. I want to write about my experiences in the (not american, I'm an International) army, and why it makes me a little bit different than the rest of the applicant pool (diversity, they'd say). My plan is to talk about some of the highlights of my 12 months their, and then compare and contrast them to physics/mathematics, and why it was so different to what I did before I enrolled in the army.

Does anyone think it's a bad idea to center my entire college essay around my year in the army? Is the military itself maybe a sore subject, due to the war in Iraq and such? Any advice would be very welcome.

Thank you in advance =)

That sounds really, really interesting. A few questions: Were you drafted or did you volunteer? If you volunteered, what were your reasons? Why?

Those are some ideas you could also include in the essay. I think your topic is awesome, and I don’t think that the war in Iraq would affect them.
