is it a bad idea to write an essay about how wikipedia is like a gateway to information, a source of randomness, and connect it to me and my interests. i know people dont always trust wikipedia, but the purpose of this essay would not be talking about how wikipedia is a reliable site, but more as a framework for a thirst of knowledge about anything and everything. please comment.

well being a personal fan of wikipedia and hater of all those who rag on it, i would say go for it. but i have no idea how admissions people would look at it

I think that’s a great idea, I love Wikipedia.

Sounds like the essay will tell the colleges a lot about wikipedia, but not much about YOU.

Imagine it this way - you’re meeting someone in person for the first time; let’s say it’s speed-dating. The person’s been given a complete profile of your grades, scores, ECs. What is it that you want that person to know about you before you have to switch people? Then write the essay so that it will tell colleges those things.

And you have only about 500 words to do it.

Wikipedia is an amazing way to access all sorts of information, I’d say go ahead with the essay.
