Essay and EC. Which one is more important to Cornell?

Which one is more important? Let's say if a student has bad grades, bad class rank (like a 92 UW and Top 10%-->but no way close to Top 5%) and bad test scores (600 CR, even though he has a 770 M) So in this case, which one is more likely to be more important factor?

ECs or Essay?

Good grief, top 10% is not bad at all, nor is the 92 UW. Those are solid stats. The SAT CR is a bit out of range but if you’re majoring in a Math field, they might overlook it, given everything else is solid.

I think you’ll need a great essay and relevant ECs. You don’t need a laundry list of ECs, just three or four solid, relevant ones.

^relevant ECs? So my ECs have to be relevant to my major? I want to major in biology…and most of my ECs are quite into music, which is not related to science at all. :/

You really don’t need related ECs unless you’re applying to the hotel school and possibly other small niche majors. Bio is not one of them. Just have a couple ECs that you are dedicated to preferably with at least one leadership role.

Just to feel a little confident, we’re talking of CAS here, right? If so, I’m going to stop regretting I applied.

Because I’m in a slightly similar situation, planning to major in Phy, minor in Eco. Got 800s in SAT II Phy and M2 and SAT I M. 600 CR. Decent essays, few (but I believe strong) ECs. No awards though.
