So for the Apply Texas Essay A, the prompt is:
“What was the environment in which you were raised? Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person.”

For me, there are so many different ways that I could go about this essay, and I am struggling with choosing a topic. Here are my ideas:

  1. Talk about being a middle child (taught me to be an individual/unique/responsible)
  2. My church (i know religion is risky, but i would have a lot to say; taught me to be loving/compassionate; with this, maybe not talk about faith specifically but my weekly bible study???)
  3. my dad (give background on his struggled life, how he overcame, and taught me to be a leader/ambitious/perseverant)
  4. My town (many opportunities that have occurred have been a result of me living there, has turned me into a strong individual, etc

Which of these ideas do you think would be the best for me? Also, if you have any other ideas, feel free to share.

Take the risk and talk about your church, if it’s an important part of who you are. Think about it this way: Would you really wanna go to a school where you’re rejected for talking about your religion anyways?

I think it is good to talk about your church but it depends what you mean when you say you want to write about your weekly bible study. Is it there where you learned to be loving and conpassionate? Or are you going to talk about specific bible verses, etc? Talking about how spirituality is good if you are not forcing any beliefs onto your reader, so go for it! But I am also intrigued by your third topic. However, it’d be good only if you can parallel his experience with yours, and show an example of how YOU overcame a tough situation, just like your father. Hope this is helpful
