Essay B question

How do you guys interpret prompt B? When it says 'dreams and aspirations' it can't possibly mean career goals or research ideas or something. How can we know what we want to be or do? But it can't be something like ' i want to get into a good college' or something can it? Am i just thinking too hard on this querstion?

I think it can mean different things to different people. My has known the general field he wants to be involved in since he was in elementary school, but he doesn't know exactly what he wants to do. But he's done a lot with computer programming and knows it will be a part of whatever he ends up doing.

I talked about the karate school I've attended for the last 10+ years, and how the environment there has made me appreciate being in a group of people where everyone wants everyone else to learn and excel.

So basically it implied "I really want to go to MIT," but in the form of an essay that talked about an EC and got across that I value knowledge, commitment, perseverance, and helping others.

The admissions people want to learn about who you are in your essay, and character is very high on the list of things that they consider in admission. Try to get across something about your personality, your beliefs, how those are shaped by your community, and how they shape you. If you have a specific dream or goal, talk about it; I don't think they'll look down on you for having just a general desire to learn more (or whatever your desire may be), though.

I interpreted the essay as "talk about whatever you want to talk about." It's really open-ended so you can make the essay whatever you want.

Haha, yeah, that's basically what I did.

The bulk of my essay was a narrative about skipping 3 grades and then the last paragraph sort of address how that's shaped my perspective of the world and my personality. Sort of.
