Will the admissions people mind that my essay is nearly 100 words longer than what they wanted? I feel that my essay is very good as it is and deleting stuff from it would detract from its overall quality.

I’m not sure so DON’T TAKE MY WORD ON IT, but I’m pretty sure the adcom isn’t going to sit there and count your words. if you feel that the essay is strong the way it is, that’ll come through to them.

I also had the same question. My essay is ~650 words.

Past posts on CC confirm what AmericanChai said. I think the word count is more of a general guideline, but it shouldn’t be too long.

Ok thanks guys!

Lol. My essay is actually 500 words. No more no less. It was totally accidential too. I wasn’t even trying.

500 words is just a guideline. As long as it fits under the character limit, it’s fine. My essay was about 570 words.
