And also, they have an ED deadline by Nov. 1, I don't think I can get my teacher rec in time for that, but if they have rolling decisions (I'm still a little unclear of how exactly that works), then would that mean that If I submitted all my stuff one week after the ED deadline then I would get my decision shortly after the ED people get theirs?

Essays will push a borderline candidate over the top, but they won’t make up for poor test scores or grades.

In regards to the November 1st deadline…Rolling admissions can be interpreted as “first come first serve”. The early action is basically just a guarntee that you will have a decision by a certain date. Applying after November 1st doesn’t necessarily mean you will hear after all the EA candidates. You could hear earlier or you could hear later. Thats why it is always suggested to apply EA for the guarntee.

I think unless they turn out to be grammatical nightmares then you’re O.K. As long as you answer the prompts adequately and then let your GPA and test scores do the rest, you’ll be fine.

Lifegr: I really can’t give you a number on that one. The criteria changes from student to student. There are so many variables here including, but not limited to, race, location, college applying to etc… There is no way to pinpoint that magic minimum number. However I would try to stay within the range suggested on the University of Michigan “Fast Facts” page.

If i turn my application in by nov 1, but my school doesn’t get the transcripts and recs in until like dec would i still be considered an early applicant?

^^ wrong crazypianist: Michigan’s Nov 1 deadline is a postmark deadline. If documents are sent in the mail prior to Nov 1, but received, say ten days after, they still consider the applicant EA.
