This organization has a poetry contest and an essay contest. For the essay contest, there's 3 deadlines per year. The next one is Oct. 17, 2005.

The National Council of Teachers of English (http://www.ncte.org) has programs, such as the Achievement Award for Writing, or something like that. Schools get a certain number of nominations based on size, and the teacher-chosen nominees (juniors) submit one previous work and one timed essay on one of two given prompts. If you're interested, I'm sure you could talk to your English teacher about it.

there's a ton of them out there, but most really get going in the fall thru early spring. If I remember next week, I'll try to find a few links for you & post. Here's one:

are you interested in any particular subject area? There's history essays, literature, poetry, political science, etc.

the fastweb stuff will renew

watch out for scams
if you usually have to pay money to move onto another "round" or something of the sort, watch out. if there is anything to do with money, watch your back carefully.
