Hey guys!
So, I just got my SAT scores back:
Reading:760
Math:770
Writing, 780, 80 and 8 essay?!!!!!!

So, I legit thought that my essay was the most epic one I ever wrote, expected about 11/12. And I got an 8. A ****ing 8. I got an 8 in seventh grade. WHAT IS THIS?

Can someone tell me how this could have happened, and how I can improve my essay, and what the graders like to see?

Thanks!

it might have something to do with how long your essay was? i know it sounds stupid, but there’s been research done about it and apparently there’s a definite correlation between how long the essay is and the score.
the last time i took the SAT, i thought i wrote a great essay with perfect examples, but it only took up a little less than 1.5 pages, and i got an 8. this time, i was only able to fill up about 1.8 pages and i didn’t think my writing was even that good, but i got a 10.

My writing’s pretty small, and I managed to fill about 1.7 pages. Hmmm, maybe I’ll write bigger next time to make it seem I wrote more…
Thanks!

I feel like I got ripped off on the essay as well. I made a 78 multiple choice and 9 essay, but I filled up both pages completely! I thought my essay was really good as well though. It bugs me seeing all these people who say they suck at writing BSing their way through and getting 12s. It doenst make any sense! When essays are posted, I want to see some of these 12 essays and compare them to mine.

I didn’t do as awesomely on the MC but I did get a 12 on the essay so that helped I had 2 pages (squeezed in 10 extra words )

I had 1.75 pages with one very-well developed example followed by an extremely short, obviously truncated second example. Got a 12.
