Essay dilemma

I have been having some problems lately regarding my common app. I actually have a story regarding an event that has personally affected me and also changed the way I do certain things right now. I wrote an essay on that but I was thinking about doing an essay on my ECs so that colleges would know the magnitude of my involvement. I have been involved in 3-4 ECs (officer position and 1 of them being research/internship). I just want colleges to know my interest in chemistry (my intended major) and want them to know that I have done activities because I have a passion for it. What are your thoughts on this matter? Thank you!

You’ve already listed your ECs and stated your major. What-- you think they don’t know you’re serious? The essay shouldn’t be a rehash of your resume.

Go with your first idea . The AdComms want to know more about you as a person. Writing about your passion to be a doctor, dentist, lawyer isn’t going to help you stand out from the 10,000 other similar essays about “why I want to be a doctor, dentist, lawyer, yada, yada, yada…”

@PrimeMeridian Thank you for the insight. Yeah, I agree with you. I was afraid that colleges wont see the magnitude of my involvement because on the common app, they only give you 150 characters to describe what you did.
