Essay Emphasis

Hey!

Do you know how much emphasis Georgetown places on essays? Or do they focus on mostly grades and test scores?

Thanks!

My grades and test scores were quite unimpressive – far below many who got deferred – but I made it in EA. I believe the sole reasons were my essays and recommendations.

My grades and test scores are definitely unimpressive, so I’m really just counting on my essays.
Thanks!

if you don’t mind me asking, what ere your scores/grades and what school did you apply to?

When I say unimpressive, I mean unimpressive, haha. Georgetown’s my reach school, but here are the stats:
ACT: 23
GPA: 3.9 as of last year. It’s probably lower now
I’m applying to the School of Nursing and Health Studies.

oh sorry i should have specified, that question was @serenen.

buy ya a 23 is low, however a 3.9, especially for NHS is pretty good, assuming we’re talking 4.0 scale

2150 SAT – 700 CR, 600 M. 710 USH, 600 Latin
3.7 unweighted GPA, 3.9 weighted
I applied to the College – FLL in particular.

My essays were spectacular – I’m not trying to sound pompous, but I truly am very proud of them. And my recommendations illuminated my commitment/deep interest in learning languages, which I think justified my horrendous SAT subject score.

If you have drive and dedication, and conveyed that properly through your essays, that will make up for bad scores. They care about the whole package, not the numbers.

23 is very low. If no one else is going to say it, I’m just going to be honest and let you know that Georgetown is a long shot even if your essays and recs are stellar. I’m not trying to put you down, but you also need to be realistic because a majority of admitted Georgetown students have ACT scores between 29 and 32 or way higher. But best of luck to you!

I’m aware. As I said before, Georgetown’s a reach/maybe school. I’m not really expecting anything. Thanks for your input!
