Essay exams

Are there lots of in-class essay exams for humanities/social science classes (especially English and history?) I don't mind lots of writing, but if it's in-class then it's a lot harder. =(

Thanks.

It depends on the professor. The only history I’ve taken had in-class essays for the midterm and the final. It was pretty hellish :(

But the soc/wom std class I’m taking now has two take-home assignments and a MC midterm & final.

So check out Bruinwalk when you’re choosing classes.

Just about every single history class I’ve taken I’ve had in-class exams. I’ve never had one history class that’s been solely papers… and I’ve taken…

8 history classes I think and like um… less than 5 humanities/other type of social science courses. For your upper-division history classes, you WILL have in-class exams unless you get the rarity that is Mary Corey and her intellectual history courses… or you’re taking seminar courses (designated with an S or a 97 usually or a 191) class that tend to focus more on the take home exams… a good deal of history upper divs are something like 60% final and 40% midterm or… 30-30-40 breakdown in terms of paper-midterm-and final i think… (at least in my exp)

For English, I think outside of the lower-division classes… you’ll see it consist mostly of papers…

For Sociology 101 (Social Theory)… I had in class midterm in class exam and a paper
For Sociology 182 (Political Theory) I had solely papers… and then one fat in class final that lasted freaking 3 hours (YES ALL OF IT) and I finished the blue book… for a good 50% of my grade. <3
