For SEAS, I'm planning to write an artsy essay. I'm thinking that not many people who are applying to SEAS will write artistic essays. I'm not sure if it goes in my favor to write an artsy essay that will stand out but doesn't exactly show the part of me that interests in engineering. What's your opinion?

that's a brilliant idea. engineers have to be creative, original thinkers, so there's no point in not writing an artsy essay. in fact, it'll probably make you stand out amongst some math/science fanatics who don't do anything besides math and science...just be careful not to make it too flowery.

good luck!

oh, and do you know if we're allowed to single space/1.5 for our penn essays?

thanks!

Not sure, should ask just to make sure. My friend who applied last year single spaced his; he got in.

dont worry about something "artsy" it should be something that reflects who you are. if it's artsy, so be it, but don't go out of your way to be different if it will be forced... admissions will see straight through it
