For applicants to the College of Arts & Science:
While each student will eventually select at least one area of concentrated study, the College of Arts and Science is committed to introducing every student to a broad range of subjects. Which academic interests and/or passions might be a part of your academic journey at Vanderbilt and why?

(New paragraph) I am very keen on doing things for the person I want to be in the future. I have chosen Vanderbilt because it offers students a broad, liberal arts education, based on a multidisciplinary curriculum that I believe I will need to be a good politic. Due to the fact that the education I have received does not allow students to choose between their courses, attending to this university will give me the opportunity to choose which program fulfills my desire of challenging myself and prepares me to be a good professional. As a matter of fact, I am passionate about relationships between countries and governments and I think they are an essential tool to build a better future for humanity.
(New paragraph) Since I can remember I have been interested in Political Science. From the tiny screen of my television I could see Argentina going through a controversial and neo-liberal presidency, a major economic downturn, a political crisis accompanied with the resignation of the president, having five different presidents in less than two weeks and other political circumstances that have left their marks in the history of my country. My determination to analyze and critic the political aspects were born with the sentiment of justice that I own and my likeliness to think critically inclined to interpret the new reality and create it being its protagonist. Above all, I am interested on debating and researching about problems country have to deal with in the context of globalization and modern life, in order to create new solutions to the current issues. To the best of my knowledge, Vanderbilt’s diverse community will give me the opportunity to expose my views at the same time I learn from others and I build my own personality and opinion, based on what I have experienced and learned.
(New paragraph) Another aspect that I am very interested about is to be a representative of my own country. I know this university offers it international students the opportunity to be “Global Ambassadors”, allowing them to represent not only their country but also their university. Personally, I want to be a representative who is able to play in contexts of change-because this is a characteristic of our time- and to develop activities in various roles and locations of the university’s work. I believe Vanderbilt will prepare me to be in a working environment, enriching both with colleagues as well with members of other professions. Moreover, in cases of interdisciplinary work, I hope to see myself crossing the borders of political science putting in the dialogue frameworks with other professionals, fostering a climate of cooperation, mutual respect, and learning.
(New paragraph) On the grounds I have always liked travelling and languages; I have taken English classes since kindergarten which has allowed me to express myself in other language and live away from home for two months. Despite is it not common that an argentine recently graduated from high school decides to study abroad, I have come to the conclusion that I decided this is the best option for me because I do not feel I have to do what everyone else does. I am different from the rest and I have different motivations than the rest. After making friends from all around the world I know that nothing teaches you more than the experience of immersing oneself in another culture. Also, I have come to the conclusion that I do not want to wake up one day regretting that I did not pursue what I wanted most. My objective in life is not only to have broader perspective of the world but also to encourage others to do it, realizing that there is more out there waiting for us to explore it.
