Here is my essay on the well known theme of originality. The exact task would be:
"Can people ever truly be original?"
Please be harsh, highlight any flaw and give an honest score on a scale of 1 to 12.
Also, I would really appreciate if you could share some examples on this theme. I know mine lack some substance and that there is a lot to add.
Thank you for taking the time to read it! :)

In everyday life we unconsciously tend to follow certain patterns or examples that influence us even if against our will. At first it was Nature that served as an example. Later on, people themselves influenced others. So being truly original is not exactly possible. If it were compared to a dish, originality would be that delicious, new flavor that is only the result of common ingredients mixed in a different way.

For instance, Nature stood many times as an example in humanitys quest for discovering new systems and ideas. Although probably a fantasized version of the real occurrence, Isaac Newtons famous discovery of the law of gravity- in the form of the apple falling from the tree- fits the pattern of human following Nature. Nevertheless, his originality regarding the subject was never contested, but in fact it was only the result of combining the already crafted pieces of a puzzle.

Following in sciences steps, literature as well has a basis from which it draws its examples, whether it builts them in uniformity or in contradiction with reality. Jules Verne, a prolific French author was considered extremely original in his depictions of yet to be discovered technology for traveling around the world in only eighty days or traveling to the moon and back. Still, this very yet highlights the fact they were eventually to be discovered and that his visions were reflections of humanitys ultimate targets back then. While his talent with pen and paper is not to be contested, his originality again draws from the world surrounding him. He was the one to write the recipe for others to later recreate the dish.

Just like the apple inevitably followed its path towards the Earth, attracted by an unseen force, so humans are attracted into new discoveries by the things which surround them. A perfect mix and match of things already there leads us on our own inevitable path. Whether we manage to create a new flavor with present ingredients that is also savory is the closest form of originality towards which we can tend.
