Essay Prompt:
A colleague of the great scientist James Watson remarked that Watson was always lounging around, arguing about problems instead of doing experiments. He concluded that There is more than one way of doing good science. It was Watsons form of idleness, the scientist went on to say, that allowed him to solve the greatest of all biological problems: the discovery of the structure of DNA. It is a point worth remembering in a society overly concerned with efficiency.

Assignment:
Do people accomplish more when they are allowed to do things in their own way? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

My Response:

Accomplishment is often regarded as an achievement of goals. I believe that people do not usually accomplish more when they are allowed to do things in their own way. Contrary to what is presented in the excerpt, most people tend to achieve little or nothing when they stray from the norms of the methods of society. However, there are some great people who achieve a lot with nothing Although a lot of people may be more motivated and have a higher sense of self-esteem and self-confidence when they do things their own way, this may slow them down, especially since most standard methods of carrying out tasks are often the most efficient.

In historical times, people who did things their own way were often frowned upon and criticized for being lazy or overextending. Sometimes, they also try to shorten the task as much as possible. People who do things their own way often carry out another sub-task because it is easier to transition between the tasks. This is often misunderstood by other people, because those who do things their own way often try to 'kill two birds with one stone', or sometimes even more. The fastest and most efficient methods of accomplishments are usually used by society a short while after they become widely known.

Although people may be more happier doing things their own way, this does not necessarily amount to either accomplishment, achievement, or success. Sometimes, it may be best to do things 'the normal way' because it is the most surefire, and people would not criticize you as harshly as they would if you did things their own way. As well as being safe when doing things as you would normally, you would not need to worry as much. A survey revealed that people who did things their own way felt less confident than people who did things normally, further supporting a universal approach to a single thing.

Since we humans are all built the same way, there is no particular reason why we should do things differently, apart from what we may think. Doing things in one's own way may not be the best way to accomplish. People may get nowhere with what they do, and they may not even be doing it correctly. When people do things , they usually have a set goal in mind, which is easier to accomplish if things are done normally.
