Assignment : Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?

Essay :
‘Knowledge is power, knowledge is eternal, and knowledge is everything.’ This seems to be the quote in today’s everychanging and evolving world. Knowledge itself cannot be a burden to human beings, unless it is misused. In some or the other way knowledge has been beneficial and always be beneficial to human beings.

Knowledge is something which has always worked as a catalyst in human process and advancement. Take the case of medicine. Many years ago thousands and even millions of people used to die due to disesases like measles, small pox, chicken pox, polio etc. A scientist named Edward Jenner came forward and with the judicious use of his knowledge , he deliberately invented a vaccine for small pox , a disease that was killing millions of people at that time . This is a clear illustration of how knowledge is beneficial ,rather than a burden .

In addition we can take a consideration of the Green revolution in India . MS Swaminathan was the founder of the Green revolution , who introduced HYV ( High yeilding variety seeds) in India and with his leadership introduces modern machinery and fertilizers to promote and foster agriculture. Before the Green revolution in the 1960s agriculture was vast and a highly tedious and exhausting occupation. They’re were problems like hunger, poverty , unemployment etc . Swaminathan with his legitimate use of knowledge has not only reduced problems like hunger, poverty and labour but also has helped to transform agriculture and the Indian economy.

The illustrated examples show that knowledge can always be beneficial as long as we use it meticulously and in the right way. I personally feel that knowledge has helped improve my life. With the Knowledge I’m gaining in high school and the Knowledge I will gain in college, I will pursue the profession of my dreams and develop not only my self but with my work and knowledge the country as a whole.

Hence we can draw on the fact that knowledge is what has helped humans progress and has served as a catalyst in in advancement in economy, technology, medicine, industires and has helped to reduce problems like poverty, labour, hunger , unemployment etc. Knowledge is a power and as the proverb says ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ is undoubtedly true.
