[Essay help] Why ___ school?

For questions that ask why you want attend so and so school, is it appropriate to say that you have a good friend there (like a role model in HS)? I'm a transfer applicant.

Thanks..

I wouldn’t do that. There’s gotta be more important things you can write about than the fact that you have a good friend (even if he is a role model) who attends. Talk about your major, the facilities, a certain team/club you want to join, the general feel of the campus, the type of student the school draws, etc…all of that goes well before your friend. You shouldn’t have space to write about your friend coming…

You can indicate that you’ve learned certain things through a friend there - by visiting him and attending classes; by comparing his experience with great academics or wahtever vs. yours.

But I wouldn’t use more than a short phrase mentioning him/her.

The “role model” thing might work… hard to say. If you want to have someone look at a draft, I’d be happy to. PM me if you like with the draft, the name of the school and the exact wording of the prompt.
