I took the SAT in April for the first time. I planned on that being my only time to take the test, but when I received my score I was quite disappointed.

790 M
630 CR
670 W (71 MC & 7 Essay)
2090 composite

I took about 5 practice tests and got mid 2100s on all of them. I can't believe that on the real SAT I didn't break 2100. Before test day I didn't even consider that to be an issue because on practice tests I was getting over 2100 every time. I think what hurt me was getting a 7 on the essay. I didn't spend much time preparing for Writing section, only the CR. Math I am disappointed that I didn't get 800, and I always seem to miss ONE question on math. I don't know how to avoid this silly mistake. Anybody have any tips?

Some factors you should explore:
Did you take your practice tests in a SAT-like setting?
Have you read all of the essays posted by College Board for each practice test in the blue book?

I would focus on improving your essay score. Start by reading all of essays on collegeboard.com and pay attention to what makes a good essay (in other words length and organization of your argument). And I wouldn't worry about the Math score. An admissions officer will not place you higher up on the admit list because you scored 800 as opposed to 790. Remember schools look at score ranges and percentiles.
