essay idea...

I have yet another post about essays. I know essays are usually supposed to steer from personal views just incase the committee has different values it may push them away from wanting to accept you. I was wodnering if i wrote about something that pertained to the Nothing But an Unfinished Song: The Life and Times of Bobby Sands, would that be a bad topic? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

The Application Criteria section of the ND Admissions website says:

We do not offer an interview as part of the admissions process, so it is through your Personal Statement that we are able hear your voice, learn your sense of humor, empathize with your struggles. We get to know YOU, beyond lists of courses, numbers, and activities. Reflect. Have fun. Share yourself with us.

If your interest in the book you mentioned gives you a chance to reveal yourself, go for it! My son, who was admitted RA earlier this year, wrote about his long hair. :) His essay did exactly what the paragraph above states; it revealed his personality, and it conveyed a sense of who he is. It worked!

Think about how you can use the essay to show who you are, and starting writing. Good luck!
