Do memories hinder or help people in their effort to learn from the past and succeed in the present? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Memories are of utmost importance for people to become sucessful and move up the ladder of sucess. One of the best ways to learn is to try something new. If something new is tried and failed, one learns from that mistake. If one is sucessful, one continues to suceed. Relinquishing a memory or past experience can make one vulnerable to making the same mistakes again. If the same mistake is continuously made, sucess is never achieved. In a history class, one learns about events and people in the past. These people and events are remembered for either their sucess or failure. It is often said that history does not repeat itself. Through this perspective, one must use their memories and knowledge of history to make good of every opportunity. A fine example of this concept is the failure of Adolf Hitler to create a perfect society through the policy of genocide. Other leaders of the world can remember this and not attempt perfection. When a business leader or advertising manager is looking to promote a new product, it is not done in an arbitrary manner. The manager looks at the triumphs and flaws of other products and companies. No manager is going to make the same mistake made by another. This is why marketers research the past and commit past happenings to memory. These managers do not want to waste money on something that has failed in the past. Managers build on the past and facilitate for any flaws. To learn from the past, all memories must be retained.
